I have visited Japan many times; however, this fall in Tokyo was more beautiful than I could have imagined. In Tokyo, the changing leaves mark the transformation to autumn. Gradually, with cooler temperatures, the vibrant green foliage of Tokyo's trees undergoes a remarkable metamorphosis into a palette of warm hues, creating a stunning display of autumnal beauty.

As the leaves around the NII have been changing over this past month of November, the Emperor's palace grounds have transformed into a kaleidoscope of reds, oranges, and yellows.

The tree-lined streets of the neighborhood of Jimbocho where I am living as a Fulbright researcher also offer a picturesque setting for leaf-peeping. Walking along these avenues, it feels as though the city is adorned with a natural tapestry, with the leaves gently falling and creating a soft carpet on the ground.

As Tokyoites transition from summer to fall, there is a noticeable shift in the atmosphere. The pace of life seems to slow, and there is a collective appreciation for the beauty of Fall. Parks, gardens, and even the city's many skyscrapers provide elevated vantage points for residents and visitors alike to marvel at the transformation of the urban landscape. Including the almost daily views of Mount Fuji that I get to steal from the higher floors of the NII.

Tokyo has become a canvas painted with rich red, orange, and gold hues, inviting residents and visitors alike to savor the fleeting beauty of this seasonal transformation.

I have enjoyed many good conversations about OER and Open Access/Science as we enjoyed the environment in and around the NII and with the RCOS team.

We enjoyed OER Conversations while walking together at the Emperor's Palace grounds during the opening of the Inui Gate.

Together Beamer, Furukawa, and Nagaoka shared the strategies to help Faculty and students in the United States with OER and Open Access. What are the differences in the ways to share in repositories as well? We discussed that there are many similar challenges like quality and peer review. Students in the United States also have much power in advocating for open textbooks. Furukawa and Nagaoka also shared their hard work on RCOS OER culture and repository work.

何度も日本を訪れているが、今年の東京の秋は想像以上に美しかった。東京では、紅葉が秋への移り変わりを告げる。気温の低下とともに、東京の木々の鮮やかな緑の葉は徐々に暖かみのある色合いに変化し、見事な秋の美しさを見せてくれる。

11月のこの1ヶ月間、NIIの周りの紅葉が進むにつれ、皇居の敷地は赤、オレンジ、黄色の万華鏡のように変化した。

私がフルブライト研究員として住んでいる神保町界隈の並木道も、紅葉狩りには絵になる環境だ。並木道を歩いていると、まるで街が自然のタペストリーで飾られているかのように感じられる。

東京の人々が夏から秋へと移り変わるとき、その雰囲気は明らかに変化する。生活のペースがゆっくりになり、秋の美しさに感謝するようになる。公園や庭園、そして東京の高層ビルでさえも、都民や観光客に高い見晴らしの良い場所を提供し、都会の風景の変貌に驚嘆させる。NIIの高層階からほぼ毎日眺める富士山もそのひとつだ。

東京は豊かな赤、オレンジ、金色で彩られたキャンバスとなり、住民も観光客も、この季節の移り変わりのつかの間の美しさを味わうように誘われている。

NIIやその周辺の環境を楽しみながら、またRCOSチームとOERやオープンアクセス／サイエンスについて多くの楽しい会話を楽しんだ。

乾門の開門式が行われた皇居を一緒に歩きながら、OERカンバセーションを楽しんだ。

古川氏、長岡氏と私で、米国の教員や学生をOERやオープンアクセスで支援するための戦略を共有した。レポジトリでの共有の仕方にもどのような違いがあるのか。品質や査読など多くの類似した課題があることを議論した。米国の学生もオープンテキストを提唱する上で大きな力を持っている。 古川氏と長岡氏も、RCOSのOER文化やリポジトリ作業に関する苦労を分かち合った。
